Episode 45: We Need to Talk about Machine Gun Kelly

One thing I want to add that I didn't cover in the episode: I think MGK, and artists similar to him who writes about such vulnerable experiences, have a great opportunity to partner with an organization like the Crisis Text Line and really promote it as a resource for his fans and the wider public. I recently went to an Aly and AJ concert where they provided on-site counselors at their show as well as a number to text for connection with an organization that supports young people dealing with suicidal ideation. They didn't have to do that with their platform, but they did and it was an awesome experience. Just knowing those resources were available helped people in the crowd feel safe and created a very loving atmosphere. It's not necessarily something that should be mandatory for famous musicians, but I wonder what our world would look like if people with platforms as big as MGK were able to promote resources like that.
